2. Description of the SLM Approach
2.1 Short description of the Approach
Vegetable production, increased dietary diversity, and potential for increased income through the use of greenhouses in mountainous areas.
2.2 Detailed description of the Approach
Detailed description of the Approach:
Aims / objectives: Maintain healthy nutritional status through increased dietary diversity. Provide an opportunity for income generation to meet household food and health needs.
Methods: Interactive training techniques, posters and DVDs used in training process. Volunteers provided only with plastic sheeting and must provide all other necessary materials.
Stages of implementation: 1) Staff train a network of volunteers to demonstrate greenhouse construction and use. 2) Volunteers pass on this training to program participants. 3) Construction of greenhouses by participants is monitored by program staff.
Role of stakeholders: INGO Mercy Corps designed the training materials and trained the Field Coordinators who then trained program participants. The community participated in the trainings and in greenhouse construction. Local government was fully aware of the program activities and ???

The Approach focused mainly on other activities than SLM (Soil Preparation, Greenhouse Construction, Vegetable Planting, Vegeatable Growing)
Encourage community members throughout the targeted districts to utilize greenhouses to increase vegetable production with the following benefits: Increased dietary diversity (better nutrition), increased food stocks.
The SLM Approach addressed the following problems: Lack of dietary diversity (low vegetable production), Short growing season, Lack of technical knowledge
