Section 1. Contexte de la meilleure pratique : conditions du cadre (environnement naturel et humain)

Brève description de la meilleure pratique

In this Project, decision makers have been identified through a stakeholder analysis. They have been invited to participate in the project as members of the stakeholder bodies. Their involvement was primarily aimed to define the institutional framework for water stress mitigation, but they were also actively involved in the selection and evaluation of options. As a result, the conclusions and recommendations applied to the pilot sites have had real value for the local communities, and could be included in the planning agenda of the decision-making authorities.

Section 2. Problèmes abordés (causes directes et indirectes) et objectifs de la meilleure pratique

Principaux problèmes abordés par la meilleure pratique

The mitigation of water stress at regional scale depends not just on technological innovations, but also on the development of new integrated water management tools and decision-making practices.

Précisez les objectifs de la meilleure pratique

Development of new integrated water management tools and decision-making practices, in order to achive mitigation of water stress impacts. In this line, AquaStress is an EU funded integrated project (IP) contract n°511231-2 - 6th Eu Framework Programme for RTD (http://www.cordis.lu) - deliverates interdisciplinary methodologies enabling actors at different levels of involvement and at different stages of the planning process to mitigate water stress problems.
|Scientific innovations on the diagnosis and characterisation of sources and causes of water stress;
|Scientific innovations on the assessment of the effectiveness of water stress management measures and development of new tailored options. Development of a participatory process to implement solutions tailored to environmental, cultural, economic and institutional settings.
|Development and dissemination of guidelines, protocols, and policies;
